Crabgrass germinates once soil temperatures climb into the mid-50s in spring, so the application has to go down before that window opens. Get the timing right, and you can stop a season’s worth of crabgrass with a single early treatment. Miss it, and you’ll spend the rest of the summer fighting weeds that are far harder—and more expensive—to remove once they’ve become established. A strong pre-emergent application in early spring is one of the highest-value investments you can make in your lawn all year.

It depends on the service. Weed control typically shows visible decline within a week or two. Fertilization and overall lawn health build more gradually—you’ll usually notice improved color within a couple of weeks and real thickening over the course of the season as each round builds on the last. Lawn care is cumulative, which is why a full-season program produces far better results than any one-off treatment.

Grubs are the larvae of beetles — mainly Japanese beetles, June beetles, and European chafers here in the Northeast. They’re small, C-shaped, and cream-colored with a darker head, and they live just below the surface of your lawn. The problem is their diet: grubs feed on grass roots. As they chew through the root system, your lawn loses its ability to take up water and nutrients, and irregular brown patches appear that won’t green up no matter how much you water.

One telltale sign of grub damage is turf that lifts up like a loose carpet — the roots anchoring it have been eaten away. Grubs also invite a second wave of damage: skunks, raccoons, and birds will dig up entire sections of lawn overnight to feed on them. If you’re seeing brown patches or animal digging, a quick grub check can catch the problem before it spreads.

The most effective approach is prevention. A preventive grub treatment applied in late spring or early summer targets the young grubs as they hatch, before they’re big enough to do real damage to your roots. This is far more reliable—and far easier on your lawn—than waiting until you see brown patches and skunk damage, at which point the grubs are large, established, and much harder to control. If you already have an active infestation, a curative treatment can knock it down, but getting on a preventive schedule is the best long-term protection.

We follow all label and licensing requirements, and the standard guidance is simply to keep children and pets off the treated area until it has dried—usually a couple of hours. For most exterior lawn and pest services, no—as long as we have access to the areas being treated (including any gated yards). We’ll leave notice of what was done, and we’ll always let you know what to expect. For services that require access to specific areas, we’ll coordinate timing with you in advance.

Our products are formulated to bind to the lawn and soil, and most need only a short window to set before rain is no longer a concern. We schedule around the weather and time applications so they’re effective. In the rare case a treatment is compromised by unexpected weather, just reach out and we’ll make it right.
